1874 JOH ENGSTROM Silvertone TEAPOT Sweden
Johan Engstrom was born in 1846 near Eskilstuna, Sweden. At the early age of 13 years old, he started his career working in a razor blade factory, and then went on to study and work in Germany and England for many years. In 1873, he went back to Eskilstuna to start his own factory with just four employees. His specialty was razors, small swords, and the popular Swedish barrel knives, for which he is well known. Engstrom also produced high quality metal tableware, including teapots.
The hinge which attaches the lid to the body is marked '12' on both sides, as shown below.This teapot is in excellent condition for its age. There are the expected light surface abrasions from use, but overall the plating is in very good shape. The only real discrepancy is where the lid's serrated finial has indented the area on the handle that the lid falls against when the lid is opened.
